40 Mile Beach Bush Camp

.40 Mile Beach Bush Camp, located 70 kilometres south of Karratha in Western Australia (WA), is an excellent spot for a day trip or overnight nature based camping.

Accessed along a gravel road approximately 32 kilometres from the Karratha Road turnoff, along the North West Coastal Highway, 40 Mile Beach Bush Camp is an ideal location for anyone seeking a natural coastal camping experience. The bay offers excellent fishing, as well as protection for those wishing to cool off in the tranquil waters.

Camping information

Fees are applicable for camping at 40 Mile Beach Bush Camp and must be paid in advance to the caretaker or ranger. All fees are payable from 1 May each camping season.

Daily fee – AUD 7.00
Weekly fee - AUD 40.00
Monthly fee - AUD 135.00

Camping safety

While Australia is considered to be a very safe country, it is still wise to avoid dangerous situations when camping in remote areas of WA.

  • Dogs permitted – Dog Act 1976 applies. Dogs must be on a leash.
  • Sullage disposal points are supplied.
  • There are no public toilets available. Please take your own chemical toilet.
  • Maintain a three metre clearance between campsites.
  • Camp in existing sites. If you can’t find a site, contact the caretaker.
  • Camping is not permitted where coastal rehabilitation works have been undertaken.
  • Campers may be directed to other sites to prevent overcrowding.
  • Please be considerate when using your generator.
  • Small campfires are permitted – supply your own wood. No wood or vegetation is to be taken from 40 Mile Beach.
  • Fish for the future – respect the coral reef.
  • Fresh water is available from the Karratha Visitor Centre for a small fee.
  • Rubbish bins are provided.
  • Only road registered vehicles permitted in this area.
  • Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.
