Jaburara Heritage Trail

Jaburara Heritage Trail explores the Aboriginal, natural and pioneering history of the Karratha district, with a strong focus on the culture and lifestyle of its traditional inhabitants, the Jaburara (pronounced ‘Yabura’) Aboriginal tribe. It also highlights the impact of white settlement since the 1860s and the even more spectacular effects of the resources boom from the early 1960s.

Covering rugged country, with some steep climbs and descents, Jaburara Heritage Trail features a number of rock engravings and artefact scatters providing insights into the Karatha region’s rich Aboriginal history.

The starting point is located at the tourist bay on Karratha Road. From here you can access two short branch trails and three longer branch trails - a secondary Aboriginal trail around the base of the hills, a recreational trail following the ridge top and a nature trail along two major valleys. Allow two to three hours to enjoy the full trail at a leisurely pace.
